The Lethbridge Minor Hockey Association is celebrating a series of major victories after local teams secured provincial titles during the 2026 Hockey Alberta Provincial Championships.
The success began during the first weekend of competition, held March 19 to 22, 2026, when the Lethbridge Val Matteotti Golden Hawks claimed the U15AAA provincial championship. The winning momentum continued for the city during the second weekend of play, from March 26 to 29, 2026, as the Lethbridge Hurricanes made history by winning the inaugural U13AAA provincial title. This victory marks the first time a team has held the championship in this newly created division.
Beyond the teams based in Lethbridge, the Coaldale Cobras also brought home a provincial banner, winning the U18C championship during the same second weekend of play. These events were part of a broader provincial effort that saw 35 championship events take place across 31 different communities throughout March and early April.
Michelle Skilnick, the manager of events for Hockey Alberta, noted that these tournaments serve a purpose beyond the final score. She stated that the championships are about celebrating the passion, dedication, and community spirit that make hockey a special part of life in Alberta.
