Residents in Ajax should prepare for changes to their weekend travel plans as GO Transit has suspended all train service on the Lakeshore East line for the entire weekend of April 11 and April 12, 2026. This service disruption is taking place to allow crews to complete critical track improvements and utility work associated with the regional rail expansion and the future Ontario Line subway.
During this closure, commuters heading toward Toronto can use replacement buses. These buses will operate between the Durham College Oshawa and Pickering stations before running express to the Union Station Bus Terminal. Local passengers should note that there will be no train service at the Rouge Hill, Guildwood, Eglinton, Scarborough, or Danforth stations; commuters in those areas are advised to use TTC services as an alternative.
At the Ajax GO Station, located at 100 Westney Road South, travelers can still access the station’s 3,050 parking spaces and connections to Durham Region Transit. However, passengers should anticipate different boarding procedures due to the shift from train to bus service for the remainder of the weekend.
The extensive construction project covers approximately 100 kilometres of track across both the Lakeshore East and Stouffville lines. Work scheduled for the weekend includes installing crossover switches, replacing track panels and ballast, drainage improvements, and general track maintenance to support future service frequency.
Regular Lakeshore East train service is expected to resume on Tuesday, April 14, 2026. Travelers should be aware that on Monday, April 13, some trains may run at slower speeds than usual as crews complete post-construction adjustments along the rail corridor.
