The Municipality of North Cypress-Langford has issued a formal safety notice urging residents to lock their doors. Posted on April 10, 2026, the advisory serves as a reminder for people in the Carberry area to secure their homes and vehicles.
While the municipal office, located at 316 4th Ave, has not provided specific details regarding recent incidents, the notice follows ongoing discussions about public safety in the region. The municipality, which was formed in 2015 and covers 1,762 square kilometres with a population of about 2,860, is led by Reeve Ray Drayson and Chief Administrative Officer Teresa Parker.
The area is served by the Blue Hills Royal Canadian Mounted Police detachment. This police service also covers Souris, parts of Brandon, and recently took over coverage for the former Rivers Police Service area in 2024.
Carberry Mayor Ray Muirhead has previously expressed concerns regarding the detachment, noting that police members are becoming stretched thin due to the expanded coverage area. In response to these concerns, the Town of Carberry and the Municipality of North Cypress-Langford previously sent a joint letter to provincial and federal justice ministers to request a stronger police presence in rural communities.
Data from Statistics Canada from December 2023 indicated that calls for service in western Manitoba rose by 13 percent compared to the previous year, with property crimes increasing by 37 percent during that same period.
