The Radha Krishna Mandir & Cultural Centre in Cambridge, Ontario, is hosting an 11-day religious celebration to mark the opening of its new facility. The event, known as the Grand Murti Pran Pratistha Mahotsav, runs from April 14 to April 24, 2026, at the temple’s new location at 85 Boxwood Drive.
The festivities celebrate the official activation of the 21,000 square foot building, which received occupancy permission from the City of Cambridge on February 14, 2026. This new space includes a prayer hall with a capacity for 450 people, a commercial kitchen, a banquet facility, a library, and wellness rooms. The site also provides 112 parking spaces, a significant increase from the 21 spots available at the organization’s previous location on Old Mill Road.
The move to the new facility concludes a project led by Dwarka Persaud, who has served as the president of the Cambridge Hindu Society and guided the building efforts since purchasing the land in 2000. For over 40 years, the organization has served the Hindu community in the Waterloo Region, growing from informal home gatherings held by migrants from Guyana and Trinidad in the early 1980s. The previous temple was a 2,400 square foot converted church that had become too small for the growing congregation.
The establishment of the new temple followed a complex process that spanned nearly two decades, involving various permitting challenges and discussions with the city. With the new centre now open, the multi-day festival features daily consecration rituals and will conclude with the grand unveiling of the temple sanctum on April 24.
