The Waterloo Regional Police Service has arrested a male youth following the theft of fireworks from a business in Cambridge, Ontario. The incident occurred on May 15, 2026, near Hespeler Road and Sheldon Drive, and police continue to search for two other suspects involved in the theft.
Officers were called to the business at approximately 6:50 p.m. after a large group of youths reportedly entered the store, took a quantity of fireworks, and fled the scene on foot. Through ongoing investigations, police identified and arrested one of the suspects on May 18, 2026, at approximately 5:30 p.m. while conducting patrols in downtown Kitchener. The youth has been charged with theft under $5,000.
This investigation takes place as regional authorities manage new regulations regarding fireworks. As of January 1, 2026, the cities of Kitchener and Waterloo have banned the sale of fireworks, leaving Cambridge as one of the few remaining local areas where such products can be legally purchased under the City of Cambridge bylaws for designated holidays.
