The City of Pembroke has issued a flood advisory as water levels on the Ottawa River have reached minor flood stage. With rising levels attributed to ongoing snowmelt and upcoming rain, the city is urging residents in low-lying areas to take precautions to protect their property.
As of 4:00 a.m. on April 17, 2026, the water level at the Pembroke gauge was recorded at 112.87 metres above sea level. This is a steady increase from the 111.96 metres recorded on April 10. The Ottawa River Regulation Planning Board warns that minor flood levels are being exceeded from Pembroke downstream to Carillon and that the risk of further rises remains.
The Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources has issued a flood warning for the area stretching from Pembroke to Arnprior, which remains in effect until the end of the day on April 17, 2026. The situation may be further complicated by weather forecasts, with up to 30 millimetres of rain expected in the local area by Sunday, April 19, 2026.
To help residents mitigate potential flood damage, the city is providing sand and bags. Those who require materials for their property should contact the City of Pembroke Operations Department at 613-735-6821 extension 1409.
While current efforts focus on the immediate response, the Ottawa River Regulation Planning Board notes that hydrological forecasts remain uncertain and has not ruled out the possibility of major flooding in various areas along the river system over the coming days.
