Residents of Salt Spring Island can look forward to a mild and mostly sunny week ahead, with temperatures expected to climb slightly above historical averages for late April.
According to The Weather Network, temperatures across the island will range from 7°C to 19°C between April 19 and April 28, 2026. Monday, April 20, is forecasted to be the warmest day of the week, reaching a high of 19°C with a mix of clouds and sunny breaks.
While a weak disturbance is expected to bring increased cloud cover and slightly cooler temperatures of 16°C on Tuesday and Wednesday, conditions are set to clear by Wednesday evening. The latter half of the week, specifically Thursday through Saturday, will feature predominantly sunny skies with daytime highs between 15°C and 17°C, offering favorable conditions for those with outdoor plans.
Marine conditions currently require caution, as Environment Canada has issued a strong wind warning for the Strait of Georgia. Northwest winds of 20 to 25 knots are expected early Sunday evening. Residents and visitors should remain aware that April is historically the windiest month for the island, which is the most populous of the Southern Gulf Islands, with average wind speeds of 17 km/h.
These upcoming temperatures are a welcomed shift, as historical data shows the average high for April on the island is typically 14°C. With the improving weather, seasonal activities on the island are beginning to ramp up as the community transitions out of the wetter winter months.
