The Saskatchewan Science Centre in Regina is preparing to launch a new visiting exhibition, Journey to Space, this coming May. The exhibit will provide visitors with an interactive look at the daily lives of astronauts and the challenges they face while working in orbit.
Located at 2903 Powerhouse Drive within Wascana Centre, the science museum continues to expand its offerings for local families and science enthusiasts. The upcoming five-part exhibition aims to explore the harsh environments and dangers associated with space travel, as well as the engineering adaptations developed to help humans live and work beyond Earth.
Currently, the centre is hosting Earth in Focus: Insights From Space. Produced in partnership with the Canada Science and Technology Museum, this exhibition features satellite imagery and photographs taken by astronauts to showcase Canadian contributions to space programs.
These temporary displays complement the centre’s permanent space programming, such as Space Stadium Canada. This area includes a gyro gym, which is a spinning device similar to equipment developed by NASA for astronaut training.
The Saskatchewan Science Centre first opened in April 1989 as the Powerhouse of Discovery and has grown to feature over 185 hands-on exhibits. In 1991, the facility expanded to include the Kramer IMAX Theatre, and in 2024, the institution celebrated its 35th anniversary with a Discovery Week proclaimed by the Government of Saskatchewan.
