A sold-out golf tournament at Deer Valley Golf Course raised funds for Indigenous student scholarships and programs at the First Nations University of Canada.
The 2026 President’s Cup Fundraising Classic, held on August 20, brought together 144 golfers on 36 teams. The event raised money through registrations, sponsorships, and tournament activities. Proceeds will support scholarships and initiatives that create opportunities for current and future FNUniv students.
The tournament included an 18-hole Texas Scramble and a $10,000 Hole-in-One Challenge. Major sponsors included the Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority, the cart sponsor, and BHP, the hole-in-one sponsor.
This year’s tournament is especially significant because 2026 marks the 50th anniversary of the First Nations University of Canada. The university was founded on May 27, 1976, as the Saskatchewan Indian Federated College, and is one of the first Indigenous post-secondary institutions in Canada.
Last year, the President’s Cup was held in Prince Albert, but proceeds were redirected to support First Nations fire recovery efforts because of the Saskatchewan wildfire crisis. This year, the focus returned to student scholarships and academic initiatives.
