Regina residents and visitors can now try their hand at solving a crime at the RCMP Heritage Centre. The new Crime Lab Forensics Experience officially opened on August 31, 2026, offering families and tourists a hands-on look at how investigators use forensic evidence to crack cases.
The experience invites visitors to step into the role of an investigator, moving between an investigator’s office and a forensic lab to examine evidence, follow clues, and solve a true-crime-inspired case involving a string of small-town bank robberies. Authentic forensic equipment, including a digital fingerprint analyzer, is part of the experience, with guidance from real RCMP forensic identification specialists.
The Crime Lab Forensics Experience costs $32 plus tax per person and includes general gallery admission. Sessions last about 60 minutes and are recommended for groups of four to six people. Participants must be at least 12 years old.
The concept came from Tourism Saskatchewan’s AWEshop program, an initiative that helps tourism operators create new experiences. Tourism Saskatchewan invested $40,000, and the federal agency PrairiesCan provided an additional $205,000 through its Tourism Growth Program to help fund new experiences at the centre, including the crime lab.
The RCMP Heritage Centre has operated at 5907 Dewdney Avenue since May 2007, next to the RCMP Academy where all Mounties have trained since 1885. The new crime lab experience adds to the museum’s existing offerings and reflects a broader push to give visitors more interactive, hands-on reasons to visit Regina.
