The Trillium Lakelands District School Board is planning 130 renovation projects across its schools for this summer, including upgrades at facilities in the Bracebridge area. These improvements, which range from roof and heating repairs to washroom renovations and accessibility upgrades, are intended to maintain safe and modern learning environments for students.
Kim Horrigan, the board’s executive officer of facilities services, transportation services, and capital innovation, announced the upcoming work during a public board meeting held on March 24, 2026. In addition to the building maintenance, the board will provide a furniture refresh for 51 classrooms throughout the district.
Beyond physical infrastructure, the school board has received a presentation on a new three-year plan focused on equity and inclusion. Presented by Traci Hubbert, the superintendent of learning responsible for equity and inclusion, this initiative will guide the board through the 2026-2027, 2027-2028, and 2028-2029 school years. The plan aligns with the broader strategic plan for 2022-2027, which prioritizes student achievement and well-being in equitable learning spaces.
The board operates on a budget of more than $279 million for the 2025-2026 school year. These latest initiatives are part of a wider effort to support schools, including Bracebridge and Muskoka Lakes Secondary School, which serves approximately 730 students in grades 9 through 12. Previously, the board successfully secured over $7.4 million in provincial funding for health and safety initiatives, such as installing hand-washing stations and touchless faucets.
Residents who wish to learn more about upcoming board initiatives can attend the next public meeting on April 28, 2026. The meeting will be held at Archie Stouffer Elementary School at 5:30 p.m.
