Local artist Beverley Smith will host an art pop-up event in Thornbury, Ontario, on May 3, 2026, providing residents an opportunity to view her latest work in an informal setting. The event will take place from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at The Gallery at the L.E. Shore Library, located at 173 Bruce Street South.
This pop-up features new creations Smith developed during her third year at the La Macina Di San Cresci artist residency in Tuscany, Italy. Attendees are invited to meet the artist and discuss her experiences abroad and the evolution of her artistic practice.
Smith, who has been a professional artist since the early 1970s, is a graduate of Sheridan College and a textile design college in Stockholm, Sweden. Since moving to the Beaver Valley in 1980, she has become well known for her textile art, murals, maps, and illustrations. Her community contributions include the 2000 commissioning by the Town of Collingwood to create the Heading Dockside mural, which honoured local shipyard workers.
Throughout her career, Smith has served as the past president of the Society of Canadian Artists and has worked internationally, including teaching jewelry design and beading techniques in Northern Uganda. The upcoming pop-up is part of the local arts programming supported by the town and the library’s arts and culture council.
