Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning for Bridgewater and Lunenburg County as of Friday, May 1, 2026. Residents can expect heavy rain throughout the day, with total amounts forecasted between 40 and 60 millimetres, and the possibility of higher totals during thundershowers.
The weather agency reports that rainfall rates could reach 5 to 10 millimetres per hour in some areas. This intensity is expected to create water pooling on local roads and in low-lying areas. Drivers should also be aware that visibility may be suddenly reduced at times throughout the day.
Bridgewater sits approximately 20 kilometres inland from the mouth of the LaHave River estuary, leaving the community vulnerable to flooding from a combination of river runoff and coastal storm surges. The town has a history of significant weather events, including heavy flooding in July 2023, which saw record-breaking rainfall that led to evacuations for 435 homes in the nearby Fancy Lake area.
The rain is expected to taper off from west to east through this afternoon. A warmer and sunnier weekend is forecast to follow, with conditions expected to improve significantly by Saturday.
