Residents in Whitby, Ontario, can look forward to a busy season of community events this May, with the return of the local farmers’ market, the seasonal reopening of the visitor centre, and the annual food truck festival.
The Whitby Farmers’ Market begins its 2026 season on Wednesday, May 13. Located at Celebration Square in front of the Whitby Public Library, the market will operate every Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. throughout the summer and into the fall.

Later in the month, the Rotary Club of Whitby will host its 12th annual Food Truck Frenzy at the Iroquois Park Sports Complex. The event takes place May 30 and May 31, featuring more than 30 food trucks, a makers market, and a kids zone complete with jumping castles, face painting, and candy floss. Festival hours are Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Admission to the festival is $5 per person, though children 14 and under are free. All proceeds from the event support community initiatives. Since its inception in 2014, the festival has raised more than $1,000,000 for local and global charities, including the Abilities Centre, the Whitby Library, the Grandview Children’s Foundation, Durham Region Hospice Whitby, and Durham College.
As one of the largest food truck festivals in the Durham Region, the event expects to draw over 25,000 attendees. Organizers have arranged for free public parking to be available at the Whitby GO Train station for those attending the festivities.
