The Durham Regional Police Service is inviting residents to a free Community Safety Day on Sunday, May 31, 2026, in Oshawa. The family-friendly event will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Lakeview Park, specifically in Parking Lot G accessible via Kluane Avenue.
The event offers residents a chance to connect with local emergency services. Attendees can view police vehicle displays, watch K9 demonstrations, and meet members of the tactical unit. The day is being hosted in partnership with Oshawa Fire, the City of Oshawa, and Region of Durham Paramedics, who will also be on-site with their own safety exhibits.
This community gathering follows a period of active enforcement across the region. Recently, police reported the April 30, 2026, conclusion of an investigation into drug trafficking and illegal firearms, resulting in charges against three individuals from Whitby and Ajax. During this operation, officers seized a loaded handgun, a sawed-off rifle, and various drugs.
These enforcement efforts coincide with broader safety initiatives currently active in the community, including the second year of Project Atlantis II. This program, which focuses on downtown Oshawa, utilizes bicycle patrols and a new utility vehicle to support ongoing local safety efforts.
