A volunteer group in Pembroke has hit a major fundraising milestone to support local aquatic facilities. On May 4, 2026, the Friends of the Regional Pool Committee announced it has raised more than $200,000, presenting the final funds to the City of Pembroke.
The money supports upgrades at the Kinsmen Pool, located at 424 Herbert Street. Of the total amount raised, $160,000 was directed toward roof repairs following the facility’s 2024 closure due to concerns about the building’s structural stability. The remaining $40,000 is being used to replace and upgrade changeroom lockers.
Mayor Ron Gervais praised the work of the volunteer committee, noting the pool is an important asset that supports health and recreation for residents of all ages. Nancy McCluskey, the committee’s finance chairwoman, said reaching this goal shows the dedication of residents across the region who believe in the importance of accessible swimming services.
The committee has signed a formal agreement with the city to continue its fundraising partnership. While this initial $200,000 commitment is complete, the group plans to keep raising funds to ensure long-term access to local aquatic programming.
Supporters can take continue to take part in a Nine and Dine golf tournament on June 5 at the Pembroke Golf Club.
