The Durham Regional Police Service is investigating the death of a 23-year-old Oshawa man, marking the third homicide in the region so far in 2026. The incident occurred on the evening of Saturday, May 9, 2026, following a physical altercation outside a restaurant in north Oshawa.
Officers responded to a call near the intersection of Simcoe Street North and Winchester Road East at approximately 8:10 p.m. According to police, two groups of men were involved in an altercation outside the Tim Hortons located at 2700 Simcoe Street North, during which the victim suffered fatal injuries. The main suspect and several other men involved fled the area on foot, heading south and east.
Following the event, police conducted a search of the surrounding neighbourhood with the help of the police helicopter and a dog unit, but the suspects were not found. Investigators currently believe this was an isolated event and do not think there is an ongoing threat to public safety. Residents in the area should expect a larger police presence as the investigation continues.
The name of the victim has not been released. Detective Laura Middleton of the Homicide Unit is asking anyone who was in the vicinity between 7:30 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. to come forward with information, including cell phone, dash-cam, or security footage.
