The Parkland U18 Rangers have donated $2,000 to the cancer care unit at the Dauphin Regional Health Centre following their most recent Hockey Fights Cancer event. This contribution is part of a broader fundraising effort that also provided $2,000 to the cancer care unit in Swan River.
The annual fundraiser, which recently marked nearly a decade of community support, brings the community together to help local patients. The Parkland U18 Rangers, who play out of Credit Union Place, hosted the event on October 31, 2025, where the team secured a 5-4 victory over the Southwest Cougars.
A key partner in the initiative is Embroidery by Design, owned by Bill and Lynda Nicholson. The business provides special pink jerseys that the team wears for three games over a three-year period. Once this cycle is complete, the jerseys are auctioned off to raise funds for cancer care wards throughout the Parkland region.
According to Prairie Mountain Health, community support plays a vital role in local healthcare. Blaine Kraushaar, a communications coordinator with the health authority, noted that because hospitals face many competing needs, contributions from community groups and local events like this remain an essential way to enhance the delivery of health services for residents.
The Dauphin Hospital Foundation helped facilitate the donation, ensuring the funds directly benefit the regional cancer care facility. This ongoing partnership between local athletes and health providers continues to provide tangible support for those facing cancer diagnoses in the community.
