Drivers in Regina should prepare for changes to their daily commutes as three infrastructure projects begin across the city on May 11, 2026. These works are part of a broader City of Regina initiative investing $147 million into roadway and water systems this year.
The most immediate impact will be on 9th Avenue North, between St John’s Street and Montreal Street. The road will be closed on May 11 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to allow crews to replace a water valve.
Two other projects will result in longer-term lane restrictions. On Wascana Street, crews will be relining a watermain between 17th Avenue and 19th Avenue from May 11 until July 24. This work is part of a Water Infrastructure Renewal program, which is dedicating $95.7 million toward renewing 40 kilometres of city infrastructure. Additionally, drainage work on Broadway Avenue between Francis Street and Edgar Street will cause lane restrictions starting May 11 and lasting until September 7.
These construction projects are funded in part by the 2026 budget, which includes a 10.9 per cent mill rate increase. According to the City of Regina, the combined increases to the mill rate, utility rates, and the library levy will result in an additional $38.70 per month for the average household to support these infrastructure investments.
