The Northwest Métis Council Inc. has announced that Dauphin will host its fourth annual Walk with Pride on Saturday, June 13, 2026. This community event continues a tradition in the Parkland region aimed at celebrating and supporting 2SLGBTQQIA+ residents.
The event is organized by the council, which is a regional body of the Manitoba Métis Federation, the national government of the Red River Métis. The annual walk began in 2023 and has grown each year. Previous events have been organized in partnership with several local groups, including the Dauphin Friendship Centre, the Assiniboine Community College, the Mountain View Teachers Association, and the Dauphin Regional Comprehensive Secondary School Queer Straight Alliance.
The walk has become a significant focal point for community dialogue in Dauphin. During the 2024 event, tensions arose regarding the local school board when the federation alleged that the former superintendent, Stephen Jaddock, was dismissed because he allowed the pride parade to begin at a division school.
Frances Chartrand, the Vice-President of the Northwest Region for the federation, has been a prominent voice in advocating for these celebrations. Alongside the organization’s president, David Chartrand, the leadership continues to emphasize the walk as part of their commitment to fostering an inclusive environment for all residents, particularly children and youth in the region.
