The Collingwood General and Marine Hospital has declared an outbreak of respiratory syncytial virus on its Medical Unit as of May 14, 2026. The hospital took this step in consultation with the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit to manage the spread of the illness.
To help contain the virus, the hospital has implemented new visitor restrictions for the Medical Unit. Patients are now limited to one visitor at a time. All visitors must wear a mask for the duration of their time in the unit, follow proper hand hygiene practices, and adhere to hospital personal protective equipment guidelines.
For the convenience of visitors, masks are available at the main hospital entrance and again at the doors of the Medical Unit. These measures are part of the hospital’s ongoing infection control efforts, which have previously included managing outbreaks of COVID-19 and C. difficile in inpatient areas, as well as the return of universal masking in December 2025.
The hospital serves more than 73,000 permanent residents across the South Georgian Bay region, including residents of Collingwood, Clearview Township, The Blue Mountains, and Wasaga Beach. Hospital leadership is also moving forward with plans for a future facility following the recent official transfer of a 54-acre site.
