The 12th Annual Salmon Festival returns to the Jim Ciccone Civic Centre in Prince Rupert, British Columbia, this weekend to celebrate the start of the salmon season. The free, public event begins at 12:00 pm on Friday, May 22, and continues through 8:00 pm on Saturday, May 23.
Organized by the Gitmaxmak’ay Nisga’a Dancers & Society, the festival serves as a cultural gathering for the local Nisga’a community and the broader public. Attendees can enjoy traditional salmon meals served twice daily, browse a market featuring Northwest Coast artisans, and experience performances including traditional songs, drumming, and dances from various guest groups.
The CFNR Network will provide live coverage of the festivities throughout both days, with hosts Brandon and Jeanette broadcasting from the venue. Residents who are unable to attend in person can listen to the event through the live stream at CFNRFM.ca.
Community groups and vendors interested in participating can register by emailing [email protected]. Those seeking further information should contact Marlena for group registration or Valerie for vendor inquiries.
