Carberry RCMP arrested 33-year-old Aslinn Arason of Carberry, Manitoba, after a stolen credit card was used to run up nearly $6,800 in charges in Brandon. The investigation started on April 27, 2026, when a 62-year-old victim told police her credit card and personal cheques had been taken.
Arason faces 20 charges: 18 counts of theft under $5,000, one count of fraud under $5,000, and one count of forgery. The stolen card was last used at a business in Brandon, and there were also tries to cash or use the stolen cheques.
RCMP arrested Arason at her Carberry home on May 15 without incident. She was held in custody until a court appearance in Brandon provincial court on May 19, where she was released on bail. Her release conditions include a $2,000 promise to pay, a $2,000 cash deposit, and a 24-hour-a-day curfew.
The arrest comes as Brandon businesses report a 40 percent increase in shoplifting over the past year. While Arason’s charges relate to fraud and theft from a specific person, police say the case is part of broader efforts to tackle property crime that affects residents and businesses across the Westman region.
