Blackfalds peace officers are hitting the town’s pathways and parks on two new electric bikes as part of a push to make the community safer and more accessible. The Town of Blackfalds announced on May 25, 2026, that its Municipal Enforcement team has added a pair of ENVO ST50 e-bikes to its patrol fleet, bought in partnership with Reds Bike Shop in Lacombe.
Sgt. Joe Croken from Blackfalds Municipal Enforcement said the bikes give officers a practical way to reach spots that squad cars simply cannot. “The ENVO ST50 is a strong addition to our patrol fleet, providing a practical and safe platform that enhances our enforcement capability,” Croken said.
Mayor Laura Svab said residents will see officers pedaling through parks, along trails and into neighbourhoods more often. “Our officers will be able to move more easily through our parks, trails, and neighbourhoods which will make them more visible and approachable,” she said. Svab added that the e-bikes also show the right way to use the devices as more people in town ride e-bikes and e-scooters.
The new electric bikes can get into tight spots including school zones, dense residential streets and multi-use paths where traditional patrol vehicles cannot go. The ENVO ST50 is built with a 750-watt motor, a rugged frame and a rear rack that can carry up to 55 pounds of gear, letting officers bring what they need while staying nimble.
Blackfalds is one of Canada’s fastest-growing communities, swelling from fewer than 4,000 residents 15 years ago to about 11,415 in 2024. Town leaders say the e-bike rollout is part of ongoing work to modernize how peace officers keep up with the growing community.
