Watson Lake residents can expect a chilly start to the week before warmer weather arrives, according to Environment Canada. No weather alerts are currently in effect for the Yukon community.
As of 11:00 AM MST on Monday, June 1, conditions at Watson Lake Airport were mainly sunny with a temperature of 12°C. But overnight temperatures are forecast to drop to a low of 1°C, which is below the normal low of 5°C for this time of year.
The cool start will give way to a warming trend midweek. Tuesday, June 2, is expected to be sunny with a high of 23°C, warming further to a high of 24°C on Wednesday under sunny skies. Both days will be well above the normal high of 18°C for early June.
The warmth will be short lived, as showers are expected to return Thursday with a high of 19°C. By Friday, skies will be cloudy with a 60 percent chance of showers and a high of only 14°C.
The Weather Network’s summer forecast calls for western territories to trend warmer than normal this year, which could raise concerns about drought, wildfire, and smoke in the Yukon.
