The Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board is looking for families in Kingston to open their homes to international students for the 2026-2027 school year. The board announced the homestay recruitment drive on May 28, 2026, as part of its International Education Program.
Host families get monthly pay to help cover costs, while gaining the chance to learn about new cultures and build friendships with students from around the world. The board says the program also supports community diversity.
Those who host must provide a safe home with a private bedroom, meals and snacks, rides, and daily support to help students practice English and settle in. All homestay homes are inspected and approved by the board’s Coordinator of International Education.
International students at schools like Kingston’s own Regiopolis-Notre Dame Catholic High School pay $13,950 in yearly tuition, plus a $550 placement fee and $1,000 a month for the homestay. The historic Russell Street school, Canada’s oldest English Catholic high school, draws students from overseas for its International Baccalaureate program.
The school board serves about 12,762 students from Kingston to Belleville and Napanee. Families interested in hosting can apply through the Global Eyes portal, email the board, or call 613-966-9210 ext. 236. Updates are also shared on Instagram at @alcdsb_intl.
