The Red River Valley School Division board has approved five key changes to student transportation for the 2026/2027 school year, affecting bus routes serving Morris and several nearby communities.
The changes were posted on the RRVSD website on May 29, marking the first major transportation update since the division wrapped up its public budget process earlier this year. Parents and guardians with children attending schools such as Morris School should check the new plans before classes start in September.
The decisions follow months of work, including a transportation survey the division ran in January to hear from the community on busing efficiency, safety, and ride times. The school division has been dealing with recruitment challenges and provincial rules on instructional time, which led to a review of routes and schedules to make sure students get to school on time and ready to learn.
Morris School serves roughly 480 students from a wide area, including Lowe Farm, St. Jean, Ste. Agathe, St. Pierre, St. Malo, Dufrost, Ste. Elizabeth, Aubigny, and Morris itself. The transportation updates will likely have ripple effects across these communities, though details on the specific motions haven’t been released.
The division’s Board of Trustees led the push for change, with decisions made by Chair Heather Poirier and trustees Fred Kelesnik, Lorelee Malkoske, Sara Hrynenko, Gord Mosset, and Candace Jorgenson. Superintendent Daniel Preteau has been overseeing the transportation review since late last year.
More information about the new routes and what they mean for individual families is expected on the school division’s website. Families are encouraged to review any notices from their child’s school to avoid surprises when the school year begins.
