The City of Leduc has a new roadmap for the future after council released its 2027-2030 Strategic Plan on June 2, 2026, laying out four big-picture priorities meant to guide everything from local safety to how the community handles its rapid expansion.
The plan focuses on safety, responsible growth, strong foundations, and meaningful partnerships, and it will steer city decisions, spending, and services as Leduc, Alberta continues to change. Right now, the city is on track to top 40,000 residents this year, a pace of growth that is three times faster than what was predicted.
Mayor Lars Hansen said the plan is a direct response to that growth. “Leduc is experiencing significant growth, and this Strategic Plan helps ensure we’re managing that growth responsibly by balancing the needs of today and those of tomorrow,” he said. “It’s about making thoughtful choices that keep both long-term sustainability and community well-being front and centre.”
The new plan replaces the 2023-2026 Strategic Plan, which had four different goals centred on livability, planning for the future, economic prosperity, and regional collaboration. While the current year continues under the old plan, the 2027-2030 document will shape budget talks and planning work as the city looks ahead. Last year alone, Leduc issued a record number of development permits and handed out 478 new business licences, while builders added 836 new homes and 181 suites.
With the city growing so quickly, the plan’s focus on things like safety and responsible growth is meant to help council make decisions that keep up with demand while still protecting what makes Leduc a good place to live. The four priorities will now inform how the city invests in everything from roads and recreation to community programs and partnerships with local organisations.
