A wet start to the week will clear out by Thursday, bringing sunny skies and climbing temperatures to Pitt Meadows just in time for the weekend. Environment Canada is calling for periods of rain Monday and a chance of showers Tuesday before conditions steadily improve.
Monday’s high is expected to reach 17°C with rain moving in during the afternoon. As of 10:00 a.m., conditions at the local weather station sat at 15°C with light east-southeast winds. The Weather Network expects 10 to 15 millimetres of rain through Monday night, with another 5 millimetres possible Tuesday morning.
Tuesday will be mainly cloudy with a 70 percent chance of showers easing to 30 percent by noon. Southwest winds will gust up to 50 km/h before temperatures reach a high near 18°C. The rain tapers off Wednesday with clearing skies and a high of 18°C, setting up a sunny stretch that starts Thursday at 19°C and warms through the weekend.
Friday’s forecast calls for sunshine and 22°C, while Saturday climbs to 26°C. The Weather Network sees temperatures potentially reaching 28°C Saturday with just a 10 percent chance of rain. No weather alerts or flood warnings are in effect for Pitt Meadows right now. The BC River Forecast Centre had no active flood warnings or watches as of June 8; earlier warnings for Interior regions such as the Upper Columbia and Kootenay River were fully downgraded and ended by June 3, with no advisories for the Lower Fraser or local tributaries.
Even so, the City of Pitt Meadows reminds residents that May and June are the highest-risk months for spring freshet flooding. About 85 percent of the city sits within the Fraser and Pitt River floodplains. The city monitors river levels at several local gauges and encourages residents to sign up for the Voyent Alert system for emergency notifications. With no flood concerns from the current rain, the improving forecast gives residents a clear window to plan outdoor activities for the second half of the week.
