Dauphin, Manitoba is under an overland flood watch as heavy rain is expected across western parts of the province through June 9. The alert, issued by the Manitoba Emergency Management Organization on June 7 at 9:39 AM, warns that some areas could see more than 80 mm of rain, leading to high surface runoff and potential flooding in low-lying spots.
The watch covers a wide stretch of western Manitoba, including Grand Rapids, Swan River, Roblin, Dauphin, Neepawa, Brandon, Souris, and Boissevain. The weather alert notes that the system is expected to bring the most rain between June 7 and 9, with saturated ground raising concerns about overland flooding.
Dauphin sits next to Dauphin Lake, which reaches flood stage at 858 feet above sea level, and the Vermillion River runs through the community. Both have caused trouble during past spring floods, including the damaging 2022 event that washed out roads and threatened properties. The Manitoba government monitors water levels closely, and residents are urged to keep an eye on local waterways and avoid any flooded routes.
Tonight also carries a risk of severe thunderstorms, with wind gusts up to 50 km/h possible before conditions clear. This follows an active stretch of severe weather across the region. Environment Canada confirmed at least three tornadoes touched down in southern Manitoba on June 2, with a possible fourth near Dauphin still under investigation. More scattered showers are likely through the middle of the week, keeping things unsettled.
