Cumberland Pride is inviting everyone to downtown Amherst this Saturday for a vendor market and parade celebrating the 2SLGBTQ+ community. The event runs from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM on June 13, 2026, and kicks off a series of Pride Month happenings across Cumberland County that continue through June 26.
Mayor Rob Small is expected to join the day’s activities, which include a parade with a route that goes through the downtown core. Details for participants are available on the Cumberland Pride page. The organization has been building these events for years, offering a safe space for 2SLGBTQ+ people and their allies in the region.
The first Pride celebration in Amherst started small in 2008 with a flag-raising at town hall that drew between 50 and 60 people. By 2017, the community held its first Pride parade through the streets downtown. Since then, annual parades have become a tradition, and the Municipality of Cumberland raised the Pride flag for the first time in 2023 before formally changing its long-standing flag policy the following year.
Saturday’s event gives families, friends, and neighbours a chance to support local vendors and take part in a parade that reflects the town’s growing embrace of diversity. Cumberland Pride continues to bring people together each June to mark the progress the community has made.
