The Westlock Citizens on Patrol group is putting on a car show and pop-up market on June 20, 2026, to raise money for its volunteer community safety work. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the West Side Parking Lot of the Westlock Rotary Spirit Centre at 9603 – 100 Street, with vendors set up inside and outside the curling rink. Food trucks will also be on site, and admission is free for everyone.
“We use the money for equipment, very good flashlights, night vision binoculars and also fuel for patrolling,” the group has said. The safety program, which started in August 2010, now has 24 members in Westlock, plus five in Vimy and 13 in Fawcett. Volunteers patrol in pairs and report anything suspicious to the RCMP, but they do not carry weapons or make arrests. In January alone, Westlock C.O.P. put in 45 patrol hours and covered more than 630 kilometres.
Garth Kohlsmith, president of Westlock Citizens on Patrol and a former president of the Alberta Citizens on Patrol Association, says the group relies heavily on fundraisers and donations. The Town of Westlock provides limited funding, so events like the car show help keep the patrols going. This is the second year for the car show, after a similar event on June 14, 2025, at the same location.
Car owners who want to show their vehicles and vendors looking for a booth can email [email protected]. Visitors can expect classic cars, local shopping, and a chance to learn more about how the patrol group works with the RCMP to keep the area safe. The Citizens on Patrol program describes its volunteers as the “eyes and ears” of the community, and this event is a way for residents to show their support.
