The Town of Grimsby is closing Inglehart Road between Ridge Road West and Kemp Road West for bridge rehabilitation work starting Monday, June 15, 2026, and the road is not expected to fully reopen until September 30. Through traffic will be detoured onto Woolverton Road for the entire summer construction period, though local access will be maintained where possible.
The work focuses on the Inglehart Road Bridge just north of Kemp Road West and includes concrete repairs, waterproofing, abutment and wingwall repairs, asphalt paving, and slope stabilization. The contract was awarded to Rankin Construction Inc., a heavy civil construction firm founded in 1978, which has handled roads, bridges, sewer and watermain, and other major infrastructure projects.
Grimsby’s average Bridge Condition Index for its 14 bridges, 9 structural culverts, and 7 retaining walls sits at 66.1, a fair rating that points to the need for major rehabilitation within the next decade, according to the town’s 2025 Asset Management Plan. Bridges and structures make up about $32.4 million of the town’s $297.5 million in transportation assets. The 2026 capital budget sets aside $20 million overall for infrastructure, including $1.6 million for road rehabilitation and resurfacing.
For residents, the closure means planning alternate routes for the entire summer. Anyone with questions or accessibility concerns can contact Jamie Anderson, Supervisor of Infrastructure Engineering, at 905-309-2044 or [email protected].
