The Stettler Aquatic Centre is throwing itself a 20th birthday bash, and everyone is invited to take a dip for free. The milestone celebration happens Thursday, July 3, 2026, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the Stettler Recreation Centre, 6202 44 Avenue, with no admission charge for swimmers of all ages. After the swim, the Destination Stettler event page promises complimentary hotdogs, cookies, and juice. Parents should note that kids under nine must be accompanied by an adult in the water.
The pool opened in 2006 as part of the larger recreation centre, replacing the old Centennial Swimming Pool, and has since grown into a 113,484-square-foot community hub. Operated by the Town of Stettler, the facility packs in two NHL-sized rinks, a fitness centre, the public library, and a seniors’ space alongside the aquatic wing. Swimmers can enjoy a lane pool, hot tub, waterslide, climbing wall, and a zero-entry area that’s wheelchair accessible, making it a draw for everyone from toddlers to seniors.
The birthday comes during a season of upgrades at the complex. Council recently approved a new tree-themed play structure for the pool to boost safety and fun for young swimmers. Meanwhile, hockey boards in both arenas are getting a $300,000-plus replacement. The original construction was partly fueled by the County of Stettler’s Recreational Special Project Funding, which was launched the same year the centre opened and continues to support local recreation.
The July 3 free swim is the latest in a tradition of community celebrations at the pool. The centre previously marked its ninth anniversary with cake, punch, and discounted swims, and this year’s event aims to keep that spirit alive as the town of roughly 6,000 people reflects on two decades of splashes, laps, and local memories.
