Residents in the Rural Municipality of Morris are navigating a mix of road and bridge closures this June 2026 as local construction projects and emergency cleanup efforts intersect. The municipality has extended the closure of Road 2E near the Riverside Road Bridge, now blocking the entire road, while work continues on Sperling Street and Elevator Street.
According to the Rural Municipality of Morris, the Road 2E closure has expanded because the repair platform for the bridge took up more space than planned, leaving no safe room for vehicles to pass. Local traffic can no longer use that section and must instead access properties via Road 28. The Riverside Road Bridge on Road 2E between 27N and 28N remains closed, with only local traffic allowed until repairs finish.
Bridge work on Road 2E started back on March 25, 2026, with crews installing rails on April 20th. Meanwhile, other infrastructure projects are underway: on Sperling Street, crews have shifted work to North Main Street in Sperling, starting at the railway tracks. On Elevator Street, the public works department is grinding up chip seal and laying down 3/4 limestone.
These closures come as the municipality deals with the aftermath of a severe May windstorm that clogged drainage ditches and culverts across the area. About 300 miles of ditch drains need cleaning across roughly 200 sites. The municipality declared a state of local emergency and has set aside $500,000 for cleanup, though the final bill could reach $1.5 million to $2 million. The RM has requested provincial Disaster Financial Assistance and is still waiting on about $3 million from 2022 flood cleanup efforts.
Residents can submit drainage requests through the municipality’s 2026 Drainage Maintenance Program online.
