The City of Dauphin will bring new walking and cycling paths to Mountain Road, giving residents a safer way to get around on foot or by bike. The improvements were announced on June 20, 2026, as part of the city’s ongoing push to make active transportation easier for everyone.
Mountain Road, also known as Provincial Trunk Highway 10, is one of Dauphin’s main traffic routes. The city installed its first protected bicycle lanes there in 2019, and this next step adds more options for cyclists and pedestrians. Dauphin’s Active Transportation Strategy, shaped by public input in 2020 and finalized in 2021, guides the work.
These upgrades follow other recent investments in the area. The Manitoba government put $32.7 million into improvements along PTH 5 near Dauphin in October 2024, a project that included sidewalks along service roads to encourage walking and cycling. Across the province, federal dollars have also helped active transportation through the Active Transportation Fund, which put over $3 million into 19 Manitoba projects since 2021.
For Dauphin’s 8,368 residents and the many people who visit from the surrounding Parkland Region, the Mountain Road paths will connect neighbourhoods and make daily trips easier. The city expects the work will support commuters, families, and anyone using the corridor for recreation or errands, building on a wider effort to keep the community active and connected.
