The Town of Olds is rolling out a full two days of Canada Day fun, starting with a fireworks show on June 30 and wrapping up with outdoor movies on July 1. The celebration has used this two-day format in recent years, and 2026 adds two free movies in the park.
Fireworks will light up the sky at 11 p.m. on Tuesday, June 30 at Rotary Athletic Park, located at 3901 70 Avenue. Then on Wednesday, July 1, the Canada Day parade begins at 10 a.m. The parade follows an extended route this year, with staging on 53 Street in front of Olds Elementary School, where the parade will also end; staging opens at 8:30 a.m.
“We’re really excited about the upcoming Canada Day festivities,” said Mayor Dan Daley in a June 23 update on the Town of Olds website. “Check out the website for the full schedule of events. The celebration kicks off on Tuesday night, June 30th, with our fireworks display.”
After the parade, family activities run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Centennial Park and include bounce houses, Super Dogs, and free cookies and popcorn. At 5 p.m., free hot dogs will be served at Rotary Athletic Park. New this year are two free movies in the park, starting at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.
Chief Administrative Officer Brent Williams confirmed the parade will go ahead as planned, though weather could affect it. The town is working with the RCMP to keep the event safe and has rules against political or divisive floats. Float registration closes June 26, and 35 volunteers are still needed to help the day run smoothly.
Residents should note that a Level 2 water restriction remains in effect in Olds, though there are no drinking water advisories. The town receives its water from the Mountain View Regional Water Services Commission.
