Collingwood’s Mobile Park Program is back for another summer, bringing free outdoor activities to nine neighbourhood parks and the Collingwood Museum. The Town of Collingwood’s Parks, Recreation and Culture Department says the program will run weekly through September 3, with Thursday morning sessions from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. rotating among different parks starting July 9, and Monday afternoon play at the Collingwood Museum from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., starting July 6.
Families can expect a mix of large-scale games and creative building activities. Staff will bring block-based Imagination Playground sets along with oversized versions of Connect Four, Jenga, Tic-Tac-Toe, and Yahtzee for kids to enjoy. All equipment is provided free of charge, and the program is designed to give children a chance to stay active and social during the break from school.
Parents and guardians should note they are required to stay with their children throughout the sessions. The Thursday stops will cycle through nine community parks, including Morbay Park, J.J. Cooper Park, den Bok Family Park, Kinsmen Park, Riverside Park, Mountaincroft Park, Walnut Street Park, Old Village (Legion) Park, and Bell Blvd Park. The full schedule and park list are available on the town’s website.
The program first launched in 2016 as part of Ontario’s Healthy Kids Community Challenge, was paused during the pandemic, and has since returned as a popular summer fixture. By taking play opportunities directly into neighbourhoods, the town aims to remove barriers like travel and cost that can keep some families from accessing recreation.
