The City of Spruce Grove has announced two temporary closures affecting pedestrians and drivers this week due to construction work. The east sidewalk on Calahoo Road will be closed for eight days starting July 9, and the south end of Bristow Crescent will be shut to traffic on July 9 for a sewer repair.
According to the City of Spruce Grove, the sidewalk closure on Calahoo Road from Woodhaven Drive to Grove Drive is needed to make way for construction of the new Spruce Grove Composite High School. Pedestrians should follow detour signs and use the west sidewalk on Calahoo Road until the work is finished. The sidewalk is expected to reopen on July 16.
Meanwhile, the south end of Bristow Crescent will be closed in both directions starting at 7 a.m. on July 8 to repair a residential sewer service connection. The city says residents directly affected by the closure have been notified, and the road is slated to reopen on July 9.
The sidewalk closure is part of the larger effort to deliver a state-of-the-art high school for the community. The new Spruce Grove Composite High School, being built by Graham Construction, will cover 175,000 square feet and accommodate 1,910 students in grades 10 through 12. Construction started in August 2025 and is aiming for completion in winter 2028.
These closures come amid a busy 2026 construction season in Spruce Grove, which is Alberta’s ninth-largest city and has seen its population double over the past two decades. Other projects underway include work on Boundary Road, Century Road, and King Street in the City Centre area, as well as improvements expected to be completed by mid-July to ease congestion at Copperhaven School.
