Ninety-two per cent of Leduc residents rate their quality of life as good, very good, or excellent, well above the Alberta benchmark of 68 per cent, according to a new city survey.

The 2026 Budget Planning & Citizen Satisfaction Survey, conducted by Leger from March 2 to April 7, gathered feedback from 535 residents. Results were released July 7.

Mayor Lars Hansen said the feedback will shape fall budget talks. “Residents have been clear about what matters: quality of life, reliable services, and affordability,” Hansen said in a statement.

Residents pointed to Leduc’s location near Edmonton and the airport as the top quality-of-life factor (58 per cent). Among city services, fire response earned the highest satisfaction at 85 per cent, followed by parks maintenance (84 per cent) and athletic field upkeep (80 per cent).

But the community is split on taxes and services. Forty-six per cent want lower or flat taxes even if it means service cuts, while 41 per cent would pay more to maintain or enhance services.

The survey arrives after council approved a 6.3 per cent residential property tax rate cut for 2026, the largest drop in six years. Owners now pay $677 in municipal taxes per $100,000 of assessed value. Leduc ranks 17th lowest in property taxes among Alberta urban municipalities with more than 10,000 people, based on 2023 data.
