Raymond, Alberta is in for a stretch of well above normal temperatures this week, with Environment Canada forecasting highs reaching the low 30s and a very high UV index that calls for extra sun protection.
According to Environment Canada, Monday will bring a high of 30°C with a humidex of 33 and a UV index reading of 9, which is considered very high. The normal high for mid-July in Raymond is 26°C, so the region will feel 4 to 7 degrees hotter than usual.
Sunday is forecast to reach 32°C under a mix of sun and cloud, following a Saturday high of 33°C. Residents planning outdoor activities should take sun safety precautions. A UV index of 9 means unprotected skin can burn quickly, so it’s important to limit time in the sun, especially between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
The Government of Canada advises that when the UV index is 8 or higher, people should wear UV protection sunglasses, stay in the shade, and reapply sunscreen every two hours, or after swimming or sweating heavily.
A brief cooldown is expected Wednesday, when temperatures drop closer to the seasonal normal of 26°C under cloudier skies and a 60 percent chance of showers. Sunny conditions are forecast to return later in the week.
