Spruce Grove residents can now host their own free block parties this summer through the City’s Neighbourhood Block Party Program, which runs from May to September.
The program is run by the City of Spruce Grove’s Community Social Development department and gives registered hosts $150 in financial support, either as a Save-On-Foods voucher with an extra 15% discount or a prepaid credit card. Hosts can also borrow activity totes filled with games and leisure equipment, along with Block Party Connection Kits that include invitations, posters, name tags, and ice-breaker ideas.
To take part, residents must register online through the City’s ActiveNet portal at sprucegrove.org/blockparty. Applications need to be submitted two to six weeks ahead, depending on the type of party. Hosts can choose from three locations: their own private property like a backyard or front lawn, a closed street (only on small streets or cul-de-sacs), or a City-owned park or green space.
For parties held on City property, insurance is mandatory, and proof must be provided. For private property events, insurance is recommended but not required. All parties must run between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m. to follow the City’s noise rules.
The program aims to bring neighbours together and build a stronger sense of community. Pick-ups for activity totes, connection kits, and barricades are at the Border Paving Athletic Centre.
