Residents in Spruce Grove, Alberta, can now nominate a local business for the 2026 Community Spirit Award, a yearly honor that celebrates companies giving back to the community. The award, run by the city’s Economic and Business Development department, recognizes businesses that show exceptional support through financial contributions, in-kind donations, volunteer work, and leadership. Nominations are open until the last business day of August.
The Community Spirit Award has been a fixture in Spruce Grove since 2009. It shines a light on businesses that go beyond their day-to-day operations to make a lasting difference. Past winners include Econolube in 2025, Freetek Construction Ltd. in 2024, and Zender Ford in 2023. The 2024 winner, Freetek Construction, owned by Dean and Brandy Fraser, built media booths worth $50,000 at Henry Singer Ball Park and backed the Challenger Baseball Program.
Any Spruce Grove business can be nominated by a resident or community group. The city looks at financial contributions, in-kind donations, volunteer hours, and community leadership. Submissions can be made online through the Invest Spruce Grove website or by emailing a PDF form to [email protected]. Only the winning business will be notified.
The award will be presented at the Greater Parkland Regional Chamber of Commerce Business Awards of Distinction gala in the fall. This event brings together the tri-region business community to celebrate local successes. The city says strong businesses build strong communities, and the award highlights that connection.
