Durham Regional Police are looking for at least three suspects after eight businesses and restaurants in Oshawa and Clarington were broken into over nine days in June. Officers are also investigating two break-ins at an Oshawa hobby store that happened in the same month, with more than $10,000 in merchandise stolen. Police released the information nearly a month later because they need help from the public to identify the people responsible.
Between June 16 and June 24, 2026, a group of at least two or three suspects hit eight local spots, including pubs, restaurants, a family playground, and an historic mill. The businesses targeted were Waltzing Weasel on June 16, Bulldog Pub on June 17, Pho Vietnam Restaurant on June 17, Joey’s World Playground in Clarington on June 20, Friendly Greek on June 22, and Tyrone Mill, Toadstool Pub, and Jack and Joe’s Pub all on June 24.
The suspects got in by smashing glass doors and windows and stole cash, safes, tills, and other items. A red sedan was used as a getaway car in several of the crimes. Police have released surveillance photos and are asking anyone in those areas at the time to check their dashcam or security camera footage.
Separately, two men are being sought for two break-ins at Great Hobbies on Taunton Road East in Oshawa. The first happened around 4:00 a.m. on June 17, when the pair used a slingshot-style weapon to shoot a projectile through the front glass door. They ran off with more than $7,000 worth of remote-controlled vehicles in a white Honda Odyssey van. The store was hit again on June 26, with more than $3,000 in products taken, and the suspects left in a black Volkswagen Jetta.
The first Great Hobbies suspect is described as a brown man in his 30s or 40s, about six feet tall with a slim build. The second is a brown man in his 20s or 30s, about five-foot-ten with a medium build.
Investigators believe the public can help move these cases forward. Anyone with information, cellphone video, dashcam recordings, or security footage is asked to contact D/Cst. Edwards of the East Crime Team at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 1605. Tips can also be left anonymously through Durham Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). A cash reward may be available for information that leads to an arrest.
