Crime is down sharply in Regina, according to new numbers from Statistics Canada. The city’s Crime Severity Index and overall crime rate both fell by 12 per cent in 2025 compared to the year before, the Regina Police Service announced on July 22, 2026.
The latest data puts Regina’s crime rate at 6,543 for 2025. That moves the city’s ranking among the country’s Census Metropolitan Areas to 13th for both the severity index and the overall rate, an improvement from 11th and 9th the previous year.
Regina Police Chief Lorilee Davies says focused efforts are making a difference. “Through data-driven initiatives like our Aerial Support Unit, the focus on downtown presence and Community ON Crime Prevention programs, we are all contributing to a safer city,” Chief Davies said.
The clearance rate, which tracks how many cases police solve, also improved. It rose to 46.88 per cent in 2025, up from 39.09 per cent back in 2016. Chief Davies highlighted the blend of prevention and investigation work. “It’s prevention, providing people with the information to ensure that they’re not being victimized, but it’s also the investigative part of it, holding offenders accountable. If we can arrest someone on the first break and enter that they do, as opposed to catching them on the seventh break and enter,” she explained.
The progress is part of a longer turnaround for Regina, which had the highest Crime Severity Index in the country back in 2016. Dropping to 13th place nearly a decade later is something Chief Davies called “fantastic.”
Despite the gains, some trouble spots remain. Shoplifting and arson continue to be pressure points for police. Chief Davies said work with loss prevention officers and other partners to target retail thefts remains a priority.
While Regina’s numbers are improving, Saskatchewan still has the highest overall crime severity among the provinces. The provincial index sat at 146.64 in 2025, nearly double the national figure of 75.01.
