A mobile CT scanner has been set up in the parking lot of the Pembroke Regional Hospital to make sure patients can keep getting scans while the old machine is replaced. The temporary unit from Atlas Medical arrived on July 22, 2026, and will stay for several months.
The hospital’s aging CT scanner had reached the end of its service life after handling more than 15,000 scans each year. Hospital officials say the replacement, set to be installed in September, will offer faster imaging and sharper accuracy, leading to better outcomes for patients.
Until then, the mobile unit takes over. Patients with appointments will still check in inside the hospital and then be walked to the trailer by staff. Most CT services will continue, and the hospital expects wait times to stay short during the switch.
The new scanner is being paid for through the hospital foundation’s $10 million Together, We Care campaign. The foundation says $7.1 million has been raised so far. Big donations have come from Canadian Nuclear Laboratories and Nuclear Laboratory Partners of Canada, which together pledged $250,000 over five years, and the Heroes Run for Healthcare, which brought in $56,499 this year. The hospital serves about 55,000 people in Pembroke, Petawawa, and nearby towns.
