Bridgewater residents and businesses along the South Shore Exhibition parade route will need to hold their garbage and recycling until after the parade passes through on Tuesday, July 28, 2026. South Shore Waste Solutions issued the notice on July 24, asking affected households to place waste curbside only once the parade has moved through their area.
The adjustment is meant to keep collection crews safe and ensure trucks can access the route without interfering with the parade. Waste collection along the route will then begin at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 29.
The South Shore Exhibition, known locally as the Big Ex, runs from July 27 to August 2 at the exhibition grounds on Exhibition Drive. Nova Scotia’s largest agricultural fair has been a Bridgewater tradition since 1891. The main parade starts around 6 p.m. on the Tuesday of exhibition week, travelling along High, Empire, King, and Dufferin Streets. Street closures in the area begin at 5:30 p.m.
