Four Hinton community groups will receive a combined $16,200 from the Town of Hinton and Yellowhead County to support local arts, sports and heritage projects. The funding was awarded through the 2026 Community Grant Program, with recipients announced after the June application review.
The Athabasca River Potters’ Guild got the largest share at $9,000, to replace aging pottery wheels. The Hinton Figure Skating Club will use $3,500 for upcoming 2026 and 2027 events, while the Hinton Historical Society received $1,700 to create a self-guided tour kit. Run in the Rockies was granted $2,000 for its 2026 trail race at William A. Switzer Provincial Park.
“This year’s funding of $16,200, supported in part by Yellowhead County, will help to support these community projects,” the Town wrote in a statement. The Community Grant Program has invested over $1.75 million in local non-profits since 1999. The 2026 intake ran from April 27 to May 22, with awards decided by the Hinton Grant Funding Advisory Committee and approved by town council on the third Tuesday of June.
The pottery guild’s wheel replacement will keep its studio running for classes and member use. Figure skating club events are expected to draw participants and spectators to the Dr. Duncan Murray Recreation Centre. The historical society’s tour kit aims to help visitors explore Hinton’s past, including the Northern Rockies Museum housed in the 1911 Grand Trunk Pacific Railway Station. Run in the Rockies will put its grant toward the annual race featuring half-marathon, 10-kilometre, five-kilometre and kids’ fun run distances.
Yellowhead County and the Town of Hinton jointly fund the grants through their intermunicipal collaboration framework, stretching dollars further for groups that serve residents across the region.
