Stouffville, Ontario will see one more hot and dry day Wednesday before a pattern change brings a chance of showers and thunderstorms to the area starting Thursday, according to Environment Canada.
As of 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, the temperature was 26.7°C with a humidex of 31. Conditions were not observed. Sun protection remained essential as the UV index for Thursday is forecast to be very high at 8.
Thursday will be even warmer with a high of 30°C and a humidex near 38. However, clouds will increase through the morning, and there is a 40 percent chance of showers in the afternoon along with a risk of a thunderstorm. The UV index will remain very high at 8.
The unsettled weather is expected to linger through the weekend. Friday will see a high of 27°C with a continuing chance of showers, and Saturday will be similar with a high near 26°C. Sunday may offer a brief break before showers return Monday and Tuesday, with daytime highs around 25°C to 26°C. No weather alerts are currently in effect.
With the very high UV levels, residents are reminded to limit sun exposure between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., wear UV-protective sunglasses, stay in the shade when possible, and reapply sunscreen every two hours or after swimming or sweating, as recommended by Environment Canada.
This summer has been one of the hottest on record for Ontario. In mid-July, Armstrong hit 40.7°C and Toronto recorded its hottest day since 2011. While the upcoming temperatures are closer to the August normal of 25°C, the pattern shift could affect outdoor plans and ongoing construction projects in York Region, including work on Yonge Street and the new roundabout at Bloomington Road and York Durham Line.
