The Town of Collingwood, Ontario, is hiring for two permanent full-time positions tied to water systems and local development, with applications closing August 17, 2026. The municipality is looking for a Water Distribution Operator and a Community Planner, roles that point to ongoing investment in infrastructure and land-use planning as the community grows.
The Water Distribution Operator will help maintain and operate the town’s water distribution network. Applicants need at least a high school diploma, a valid Water Distribution Certificate, and must work toward a Level 3 Operator certification. The job is part of a larger effort to support a water and wastewater system valued at $400 million. Collingwood’s 2026 budget puts $62.2 million toward water treatment and distribution, while a $270 million expansion of the Raymond A. Barker Water Treatment Plant is underway with $150 million in provincial funding.
The Community Planner position comes as Collingwood manages a new Official Plan that took effect in October 2024 after an Ontario Land Tribunal ruling in June 2026. The plan guides growth for a population expected to nearly double from about 25,500 to 42,700 by 2051. Recent projects include a 30-unit affordable housing building on Birch Street that broke ground on July 30, 2026, with the town having donated the land to Simcoe County.
Both jobs are listed on the town’s careers page. The Community Planner will help process development applications and support the planning department, which is seeing steady pressure from growth even though building permits dipped in 2025, with only 40 permits issued for 54 new units. The water operator role reflects the daily work needed to keep the taps running and meet standards as the town expands.
